Security and Peacebuilding
People cannot live freely where violence goes unmeasured. We make patterns of insecurity visible and bring community evidence into national conversations about public safety.

People cannot be safe when violence remains poorly understood. By July 2026, 36.2 million Nigerians were food insecure, with conflict in the north a leading driver.
Nextier SPD’s Violent Conflict Database tracks violence across all 36 states and is cited in peer-reviewed research. Each week SPD turns it into the Nigeria Violent Conflict Weekly Spotlight, a short brief on where violence rose, who was behind it, and which states need attention. The Foundation will open a public portion of this record to researchers, journalists, and communities.
We are also a partner in the People-Centred Public Safety Initiative, funded by the Open Society Foundations and delivered by a consortium that includes Lawyers Alert, Spaces for Change, CJID, CLEEN Foundation, and SERAP. In Benue and Bayelsa, it turns communities’ experience of insecurity into evidence that shapes security planning. In 2026, Benue adopted the people-centred model as state policy.
